WINTER WOODLOT TOUR 2015: FORESTS FOR ISLANDERS
Watershed organizations from Wheatley, Hunter-Clyde and West Rivers, working with the PEI Departments of Agriculture and Forestry, and Tourism and Culture would like to invite the public to attend the fifth annual Winter Woodlot Tour on Saturday February 14th, 2015.
This free event will run from 9:00AM -1:00PM at the Brookvale Nordic Centre (#1800, Rte 13, Brookvale).
The Brookvale Nordic Ski Centre is a fantastic facility that provides diverse winter recreational activities on lands with a traditional Island history of resource use – farming, early forestry & modern forestry styles and allowing for public use of public lands.
Join us outside to participate in:
- Cross-country skiing
- Maple syrup snow treats
- Winter photography
- Winter obstacle course
Visit information stations along the trails and inside the lodge to learn more about:
- Wildlife and birds present in our forests in the winter
- The changing face of woodlot management
- Chainsaw maintenance and safety
- Watershed management and stream restoration
- Forest-based products in craft industries
- And much more
This annual event is intended to give Islanders a taste of what our forests can do for us, both as a resource and as an important part of our Island environment. Bring the whole family and enjoy a day of winter fun and camaraderie. There is no charge to attend, the lodge will be open to warm up and as always there is free hot cider.
Experts from supporting agencies and other organizations will be on hand to answer any questions you may have regarding Forests, Wildlife and Watershed management.
